By George W. Harris
Bassist Nilson Matta leads a stellar sextet that could easily be considered
the 21st century version of the classic Getz Samba discs. With Harry Allen's
tenor getting more mellifluous by the year, and he's got that classically
warm and embracing tone on this release, particularly on the seductive
"Aguas Brasileiras"while the blending with Anne Drummond's flute
on "Baden" is like crushed Heath Bars sprinkled over coffee
gelato. The whole disc simmers and saunters with an alluring gait; Matta's
own tunes like "Saci Perere" and the title track shimmer like
chrome on a Chevy, and the rhythm section of Klaus Mueller/p, Mauricio
Zottarelli/dr and Ze Maruicio/perc are as sleek as fins on a 57 Bel Air.
Great music here that you'll never tire of listening to.
