Rev.
Gary Davis Of all the blues artists that have plucked the six strings, Rev. Gary Davis is one of the key links, as he connects the dots between holy church and the unholy world. His playing and singing is all his own, and both sound like they could be from an Old Testament Prophet like Isaiah, or Jonah, right out of the whale. This 3 disc
set has the man of God performing a set of concerts from a NYC run from
1962, all caught on tape by guitar disciple Stefan Grossman. The sound
quality is excellent, and as for the music, well, if you haven’t
heard (or is experienced a better word) the mesmerizing guitar work and
pulpit preaching of the Rev, HANG ON TIGHT! Songs like “I Am A Pilgrim”
and “I’ll Fly Away” cut to the core of a man’s
walk with God, while “Say No To The Devil” and “Samson
and Delilah” will get you on the straight and narrow in no time.
Even if you have the faith of just a mustard seed, these songs will move
your mountain.
