Celtic Woman
The Greatest Journey: Essential Collection
EMI
By George W. Harris

I was getting jazz overload, and felt like I needed a change of gears.
This "Essential" collection by vocalists by the names of Chloe, Lisa,
Meav, Orla, and violin playing by Mairead (these people are definitely
NOT Greek like I am!) was just what my ears were looking for. Standard
Irish fare, sung by the type of women who have doing this sort of thing
since the middle ages. And until they change the pronunciation of the
basketball team, I'm calling this music "Sell-tic" till Bill Russell
dies. Irish standards like "Pie Jesu" and "Danny Boy" are just drop
dead gorgeous, while Mairead's lush (is it all right to use the term
"Irish" and "lush" in the same sentence?) violin treatment of "The
Voice" just rings with pastoral grace. This is music for altering your
alpha waves. So grab a copy before I whack you with my Shalaylee.
