Alto saxist/composer Christian Weidner teams up with symbiotically with Colin Vallon/p, Henning Sieverts/b and Samuel Rohrer/dr for a sublime, gentle and serene collections of originals on this latest release. Weidner’s got a calm sound to his horn, like a 2nd cousin to Paul Desmond, and puts it to excellent use on these panoramic tunes. “Poem For Ada” and “Psalm” have a calming glow that hovers over the gentle rhythms, while “Drawn Ones” and “Ave” have a pristine delicacy that wants you to caress each note. The songs have a holistic sense to them; there are no mindless solos; everyone hands the baton like a graceful relay team. A true balm for the ears and soul.
