Jazz: Interpretations of Jazz Standards & Bossa Nova

Here is a
great idea, and while it could have been a disaster in
production, it was done just right. An anonymous classical Indian
orchestra (no musician credits?!?) go through a canon of jazz and bossa
nova. Before you cringe in anticipation, lemme tell ya-it works! The
strings and percussion develop these incessant grooves on tunes like
“Take Five” and “Desifinado” that are as sweet
as Darjaleen tea, while
the raga takes of “Garota de Ipanema” and Dave Grusin’s
“Mountain
Dance” are as hot as a Masala sauce. The sitars state the themes
with
the delicacy of a mango lassy as on “Samba De Verao.” Oh,
there are a
couple of tunes that get a bit kitschy, as Bacharach’s “This
Guy’s In
Love With You,” but for the Tons of fun!
