It’s guys like Doug Munro that made me give up playing guitar and
switch to the sax. If I couldn’t conquer the sound of Django Reinhardt,
then I just didn’t want to even touch a fret anymore. Doug went the
distance, and got the sound, style and attitude down, and does it just
right on the Christmas present of Nativity tunes. He joins together
with Ernie Pugliese/g, Howie Bujese/v, Cyrille-Aimee Daudel, voc and
Michael Goetz/b for some bohemianly swinging tunes of “Sleigh Ride” and
“Santa Clause Is Coming To Town.” Peplowski’s clarinet glows on the
former, while Daudel delights on the latter. Old time favorites like
“We Three Kings” are given an extra dash of panache, with Munro’s
picking and Bujese’s bowing adding just the right amount of nutmeg to
this joyful Christmas eggnog.
