Kathleen
Kolman Originating
from that epicenter of jazz, Butte Montana, vocalist Kathleen Kolman put
out an impressive , debut a long time ago, and finally returns to the
scene with another fresh disc that takes intriguing readings of standards
as well as the ringer of a title track. Her delivery is a mix of the flexibility
of Sheila Jordan with the presentation of Shirley Horn serving up readings
of Ivan Lins’ “Somos Todos Iguas” and Jobim’s
“Wave” with delicacy and ease. Backed by a team that includes
Mark Shilansky/p, Keala Kaumeheiwa/b, Bertram Lehmann and Jon Hazilla/p
Kolman veers and winds through “Day By Day” and “Get
Happy” with Daytona 500 dexterity, while pulling the Aerosmith hit
“Dream On” out of left field and wrapping it in a whole new
package, fresh and re-upholstered. A nice next step for this promising
singer.
